Description
This year, the Racine Scouts Drum & Bugle Corps turns 85 years old. They are the oldest continually operating drum corps in America.
In 1927, the Racine Explorer Scouts, a boy scout troop from Racine, Wisconsin formed the first (at least I think the first) boy scout drum and bugle corps.
Then, their neighbors from Madison, the Madison Explorer Scouts, decided they needed a drum corps. Thus, the legendary Madison Scouts were born.
After that, Boy Scout Troop 111 from Chicago, Illinois decided they needed a drum corps, giving birth to the seven-time world champion drum corps, The Cavaliers.
So, the Racine Scouts were a major part in the formation of two of the most spectacular corps in DCI's history.
So, this is my "gift" to fans, alumni, and members of the Racine Scouts. Happy 85th Birthday!
